WATERFRONT WANDER

Orakei to St Heliers   Sat 15 June

We met at Paratai Drive at 10am for easy parking and super views. It was a quick downhill walk to Okahu Bay in sunshine. Meeting a number of other walkers and cyclists on the path, we ascended by road to Bastion Point. The colourful gardens were a lovely setting for a morning tea break. Descending the steps, we were amused at a 'bear-sighting'! A toy bear was perched in a leafless tree.

Walking past the Mission Bay fountain, where we had a group photo, we then continued on the seaside walkway. At Kohimarama Beach some enjoyed a sandy, beach walk with more sunshine. We were delighted to see a Spoonbill resting on the rocks as we entered St Heliers Beach. We decided to walk on to Archilles Point, 20 min further on for more lovely harbour views.

Here, Barbara shared devotions relating to Sand and Rocks, firstly relating the account of the risen Jesus' preparing breakfast on the beach (John 21). Mention of sand and rock led to the parable Jesus told of the wise and foolish builders, representing those who obey or disobey (Matthew 7). Lastly sharing Psalms verses reminding us all the Lord is our rock and fortress.

We returned to St Heliers, Cypress Café for lunch. Almost all the group chose to take the bus back to Okahu Bay. The day remained fine, even though showers were seen in the distance. It was a pleasant easy walk of 8km, in 2-3 hours.
