The Easy Walk was facilitated by Gary and Margaret  in liaison with the pack carrying group who were staying overnight at Humphries Bay, Lake Tararewa. The group left Auckland in two vehicles about 6pm on Friday night.

The easy walking group stayed at the Rotorua Holiday Thermal Park at $23 a night enjoying the use of thermal hot pools.

Saturday

Early in the morning we travelled to the Baptist Church with the vehicles and collected the overnighters to take to the start of the track at Lake Okataina. Part of the Lake Okataina walk was done to the Maori Pa site. From here a number of walks were done in the Rotorua area firstly a walk around Blue Lake taking approximately two hours this was very attractive. Lunch was had on the track looking out to Blue Lake.

Following this we travelled to the Redwood Forest and walked through this forest enjoying the awesome vegetation. This walk was for about 1 and half hours. The trees were magnificent.

The last walk was around the Lake Rotorua waterfront taking in the Autumn Colours very pretty. On this walk a time of reflection was shared by all. Getting a combination of Thai meals we went back to camp and enjoyed a hearty tea together followed by an enjoyable swim in the hot pools under moonlight.

Sunday

The next morning the team got up and made some lovely hot scones to take to the overnighters to meet at Tawarera Falls. To get to the falls forestry passes were collected from Kawerau information centre costing $3 a vehicle. Leaving at 8pm driving to Kawerau then doing a 20 minute walk to the falls we met up with the overnighters. At the end of the trip each group travelled separately back to Auckland. Cost for the day walkers was approximately $90.00 and there were 5 day walkers. This trip highlighted that dual trips are important to the club and at certain destinations this can be achieved. An awesome time was enjoyed by all.
