About 30 people gathered at Nelson’s home in Red Beach for an interesting journey to five nations. We
began at 7:15pm with Nelson taking us to Japan showing us Mt Fujiyama and some of the lovely bush and
countryside. There were also local people, temples and gardens to see. Malta was our next port of call,
where we had a look at the place where Napoleon completely changed the government in 1798. The streets
and outdoor dining were a colourful sight to see, and a display about Malta’s involvement in World War
II was interesting to see, especially the siege of 1940-43. We travelled back to June 2014 and Italy
to see Mt Etna in a spectacular eruption. Ted took us on the Camino Trail in Spain, something that reminded
many of us of a movie about this trail that showed in cinemas last year. Barbara concluded the formal
time with a brief presentation about the Club’s training programme for this year that will include three
training days plus a weekend away at Waitawheta.
